How can we grow a community that everyone can afford? inclusivehousing.info is a place to share and learn together about inclusive housing - decent and affordable homes for all of us.

Inclusive housing also means that our neighborhoods and residential developments contain a mix of homes at prices and rents that match the incomes of local working families and individuals. With inclusive neighborhoods:
  • Workers can live close to jobs
  • Traffic and associated pollution is reduced
  • Children do better in schools
In Whatcom County, working families are struggling with a dwindling number of housing choices. Our strong real estate market has a downside for many moderate- and low-income workers who face escalating rents and home prices coupled with little to no income growth.

Successful affordable housing has been built in other communities, as part of mixed-income housing developments or neighborhoods. Join us in learning about some of the tools we can adopt in Whatcom County to make our own community more inclusive.
